Danica Patrick was starting from the 17th position as the green flag waved for the Nationwide Series' Aaron's 312 from Talladega Superspeedway. On lap 77 Patrick took the lead from team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. Patrick would finish 13th. With two laps to go, some of the leaders were collected in the "big one" Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, and Michael Annett were running in the top five at the time of the nine car wreck. Eric McClure needed to be cut from his car after running into the SAFER barrier. McClure was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The race was red-flagged for 19 minutes. On the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish, two teammates were vying for the win Joey Logano used a slingshot move to get past Kyle Busch to take the checkered flag by just 34 thousandths of a second. The victory was Logano's second of the season. As the rest of the field was coming across the line, Sam Hornish Jr. ran Danica Patrick into the wall. Patrick took umbrage and wrecked Hornish on the cool-down lap.
